CLARIFICATION OF NEW
CLUB INSURANCE
THE OLD PASSPORT
SYSTEM IS NO LONGER REQUIRED
In 2006 after much
investigation and debate into the how we could best provide insurance protection
for you as members, the committee and the club on Play Day events, we introduced
the Vehicle Passport system. It’s aim was to ensure that everyone on site at
Playday’s had a level of individual vehicle Insurance that covered them during
the event. This ensured we could protect you and the club should the
unthinkable happen and we had a serious accident on site.
We all acknowledged
that this was not a perfect solution with some members having trouble obtaining
the level of cover required for many reasons. From the committee’s point of
view, managing the system including collecting the information, storing it
updating records ensuring it is up to date at each event and producing the
passports is a huge extra job which takes away time that could be better spent.
The system also creates a potential barrier to people joining the club or being
able to participate in our events which is not good for the club.
We have continued to
look for a better solution to providing this cover and have found an Insurance
company that specialises in insurance cover for motor sport clubs such as
ours`. They have a policy specifically designed for non-competitive clubs that
are not affiliated with a governing body (such as the MSA). This policy will
provide the club with £5,000,000 liability insurance for all of our events. The
committee have discussed this at length, and have had to put a number of risk
assessments and procedures in place so we can take advantage of the new
insurance policy. This means that we can now close the Vehicle Passport
system.
