Green LanesThe Solent And District Land Rover ClubSo....What is a Green Lane Event then? A ‘Green Lane’ event is a club event organized to follow a route through local byways, and unclassified roads. This is a very enjoyable way to spend a day and will take you right into the heart of the countryside with all the attractions that offers. Some routes will include other activities such as a treasure hunt to amuse the younger members. We normally try to plan the route so that a lunch stop in a country pub is possible.
The routes we use are always checked with the definitive map to ensure that they are legal rights of way. However the use of 4 wheel drive vehicles on green lanes can be a very emotive subject. The club believes that all users of the countryside can enjoy their respective leisure pursuits without unduly upsetting others, so long as we all exercise a little due care and consideration. To aid club members there is a ‘Green Lane Code of Conduct’ which all should follow. The green lane events details on the site and in the club magazine will always refer to a general location rather than specifics for obvious reasons. To attend a green lane event you will need to book in prior to the event with the event organizer. He or she will then give you the meeting point and time for the event. This enables the club to limit number of people we have on an event and impact we make on the lane network.
At the event you will need to sign in and will be given a map or a series of map references to follow. The organizer will set you off on the route in small groups with time intervals between each of the groups to space them out. There will be a number of marshals involved in the event to oversee proceedings and ensure people do not get lost or stuck. At the end of the event please ensure you sign out so we can ensure everyone is accounted for. |
