Club NewsThe Solent And District Land Rover ClubHow to upload Pictures etc. onto the club website. by Rob Marriott If you have digital photos and videos of club events there is a simple way of sending them to the webmaster for publication on the web site and in the RAG. The way to do this is to upload them into a member’s only area of the website, once you have done this they can be added to the site by the webmaster and/or passed to the RAG Editor. You can upload pictures, video’s, RAG articles, Members Rides details or anything else you would like. Here is a step by step guide on how to do this. For the purpose of this guide I’ve assumed you are using Windows XP, but the process is similar for other operating systems. First go to the Main Site and in the left hand menu click on the Members button. This will take you to the Members Page. In this page click on the Open up the FTP upload area link which will take you to the FTP (File Transfer Protocol) part of the site. You will be asked for a Username and Passport to access this which you can get by e-mailing or calling me. Once you have logged on you will see a page like this.
As you can see there are a number of folders in this space which are there for you to upload your files to. There are also two folders which contain the Agenda’s and Minutes for all of the club meetings. Finally there is also a Read Me file which outlines how to save your files into this area. If we assume for the sake of this demonstration that you are uploading (sending) some pictures of an event at Minstead then you would do the following. Double Click on the Pictures Uploads Icon, then click on File in the top left corner, then New in the menu and then Folder as below.
This creates a new folder which you should name so that the origin of the pictures is obvious, i.e. in this case ‘Minstead June 2007 Rob Pictures’. Then double click on this folder to enter it.
Next minimise this screen and go to Windows Explorer or My Computer to find where you saved your pictures on your computer. Highlight these and Copy them (Either by selecting copy from the Edit menu or by pressing CTRL and C at the same time.
Then go back to the FTP folder you created, right click in the white space and select Paste from the drop down menu.
Your pictures will then upload into this file on the website. It is also a good idea to write a small text file in Notepad or Word to say what the pictures are of and who took them and upload this in the same manner as the pictures. Finally send an e-mail to the Webmaster telling him that you have uploaded some pictures so he knows to go into the site, download these and then publish them in the public part of the site.
