Event ReportsThe Solent And District Land Rover ClubMatchams. April 23rd 2006 by Jeff Harris New site, new experience. Well it was new and has some good bits, not as extreme as some, and not as damaging for many. One good thing was that the market was not there due to the site owners changing. It will be back on our next visit so you can shop and off road. The site has two sides a challenging tight and twisty section near the car park, with a steep hill as well, and another section you have to drive through the market car park to. This has a chalk hill to play on and further in has some sticky mud, not dissimilar to Somerley, but with almost no trees to winch off. The ground is sandy with some dirt mixed in. We have to keep off the Heather, and cannot make any new routes due to the owner’s request. Quite a few shineys took part. Tony's 90 took on the look of a chainsaw when it tried to chop down a tree. It is on video if anyone wants to see it. Paul brought his new Disco, yep DISCO, and I think he even christened the door as well. I had a go in my road going Disco, but chickened out as Jez had kissed a tree in his on the same spot, a turn on a side slope. Most people looked at the Zill a Russian 6x6 V8; it did not get stuck all day, just as well as it looks bloody heavy. We even had a suspension competition on the back of the Zill to see which had the better travel. Could be good for a giggle at the September Dave Spelling challenge for a giggle. Most people had a good day, now we know the site we will be better prepared next time. If you know of a Good Site, please let us know. We hope this year to try a small site at Canford near Poole, extreme ˝ day, winch, muds and large tyres needed, damage very possible. We will run an AM and PM session. We are still Looking for a contact Tel number for the Lytchett Matravers site, still chasing Mannington and hoping for Nellies Dell for next year. It is not a difficult site, but could be a BBQ and play or a camp with a green lane day. Let us know what you want.
